Essay on Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah with quotations

Professor Stanley, the author of Jinnah of Pakistan, writes, 

                                “There are very few people who change the course of history, and even fewer are those who change the map of the world, and there is someone who can establish a new state.” 

Muhammad Ali Jinnah is a person who fulfilled all three acts simultaneously. Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had incomparable qualities. He was a model of integrity, honesty, and determination. Not only that, but he addressed complicated issues successfully and laboured hard for his missions. He worked hard to carve out a place on the map of the world for the Muslims to live peacefully without any oppression.

The services and spirited leadership of Quaid-e-Azam in the Pakistan movement need no explanation. I like him because of his marvellous personality and dignified soul. His unparalleled leadership freed the oppressed Muslims of the sub-continent from the brutal slavery of the Hindus and imperialism.

Quaid-e-Azam was born in Karachi on the 25^th of December, 1876, in a well-off merchant family. He received his early education in Karachi. His father, Poonjah Jinnah, wanted to give him a good education and kept him away from the business. At the age of sixteen, on passing the matriculation examination, he went to England and studied law at Lincoln’s Inn. After four years, he returned as a Barrister and started his practice in Karachi.

At the age of 20, Jinnah began his practice in Bombay, the only Muslim barrister in the city. English had become his chief language and would remain so throughout his life. His first three years in the law, from 1897 to 1900, brought him a lot of knowledge. It was nearly 10 years later that he turned actively toward politics. He began his political career as a member of the Indian National Congress. Jinnah was part of a group of moderate Congress members who preferred Hindu-Muslim unity in acquiring independence and self-government. He wanted to use constitutional means to achieve his goals. For many years, he tried his best to establish amicability and harmony between the Hindus and the Muslims. He tried to make them stand on one platform, but their differences did not allow this to happen. Soon, he was convinced that Hindu and Muslim unity was not possible.

In 1913, the Quaid-e-Azam joined the All India Muslim League. He tried to establish a functional relationship between the Hindus and the Muslims. He was called the “Ambassador of Hindu Muslim unity”.

Quid-e-Azam imbued new life, vitality, and spirit into the sluggish body of the Indian Muslims. He knew the Muslims had a lot of potential, but there was no leader to guide them. He selected a dedicated team of knowledgeable people, and shortly, the Muslim League appeared as the second most notable party. His enthusiastic and devoted leadership ignited a new imagination among frustrated Muslims. He awakened them from their sleep and organized them as a nation. He told the Muslims that the only solution to their problems was that they should have their separate homeland where they could live their life according to their religion and culture. As a result, in the general elections of 1937, the Muslim League won a large number of seats in the Provincial Assemblies.’The Lahore Resolution was the backbone of Pakistan’s freedom struggle.

 In 1930, Allama Muhammad Iqbal explained the idea of Pakistan. Muhammad Ali Jinnah took up this cause and idea and gave it a practical shape. When the Indian Muslims made up their minds about emancipation, they turned their eyes on Quaid-e-Azam, who cut off the fetters of slavery and brought his people.

He further said:

“We believe in one God, They believe in many gods. We don’t have a cast system, they have a cast system. We can’t be interned nor interline. How can we live together?” 

By 1940, Quaid-e-Azam was convinced that the Muslims could not expect justice under the Hindu majority. Therefore, in March 1940, the Muslim League, under his administration, passed a resolution that demanded the division of India. It demanded an independent Muslim state comprising Muslim majority provinces.

He once said:

           “With faith, discipline and selfless devotion to duty, there is nothing worthwhile that you cannot achieve.”

Besides reorganising the Muslim League and motivating people for the creation of Pakistan, Jinnah encouraged the participation of women in every field. Fatima Jinnah, along with Begum Raana Liaquat Ali Khan, performed a noteworthy role and mobilised the Muslim women for this struggle. They equipped women to work for the party to achieve its dignified cause. Jinnah himself was of the opinion that women can play a pivotal role in establishing an ideal society if they are encouraged and supported. 

He said on one occasion:

                                         “Another very important matter which I want to impress upon you is that no nation can rise to the height of glory unless women are side by side with you. We are victims of evil customs. It is a crime against humanity to shut up women within the four walls of houses as prisoners.”

As a result of the untiring struggle of the Muslims under the selfless and magnificent leadership of the Quaid-e-Azam, Pakistan came into being on the 14^th of August 1947. The Quaid-e-Azam became the first Governor-General of Pakistan. 

Jinnah worked very hard for Pakistan despite his failing health. 

 Mountbatten said that Jinnah had a ” consuming determination to realize the dream of Pakistan.” 

And he remained focused on that till his death.

 He often used to say, “Once the decision is taken, stand by it as a wall”. Muhammad Ali Jinnah was independent in opinion and did what he thought was right. He was also an intelligent and savvy politician. It was due to his insight and personality that the Muslims were united and gained a new homeland.

Quaid-e-Azam had a deep sense of responsibility, perseverance, and courage of conviction. He had an enduring, firm respect for the law. He hated all forms of social evils. In other words, his personality was a beautiful blend of intelligence, determination, loyalty, righteousness, and courage.

Quaid-e-Azam had a spellbinding personality. Not only Muslims and Hindus of the subcontinent but also the British could not help being impressed by his personality. Jinnah proved that peaceful constitutional effort is the best and right path to achieve any goal.

As a nation, we must believe that every word of our leader has the status of command for us, and by following his words and following the path shown to us, we can achieve the goal of a stable and prosperous state.

Mrs Vijay Lakshmi Pandit, a prominent figure and Nehru’s sister, stated, 

“If the Muslim League had 100 Gandhis and 200 Azads and Congress had only one Jinnah, then India would not have been divided!”

The statement reflects the bare fact that it was only Jinnah who fought the case of Muslim nationhood in India and won it through the force of arguments. He is Pakistan’s founder and the saviour of a hundred million Indian Muslims. He died on 11^th September 1948. Quaid-e-Azam will always live in our hearts as the “Father of the Nation”.
